EASTORA REPORT | Donald Trump says he expects Republicans to win the midterm elections. But if Washington ends up divided, he already has an answer.
“If there’s a political gridlock, what happens is I veto everything, and Democrats come to make a deal.”
Speaking to reporters Friday, Trump said he remained confident Republicans would prevail in November, while making clear how he would respond if Democrats gained enough power in Congress to block his agenda.
His message was simple: he would use the presidential veto and wait for negotiations.
Republicans currently control both chambers of Congress, but their margins are narrow. The November elections will determine whether Trump keeps unified Republican control or faces a Democratic-led chamber during the final two years of his presidency.
Trump is betting on a Republican victory, but if that fails, he says he is prepared to govern through confrontation and negotiation rather than retreat.
